You've come to the right place.  Being a farmer's daughter, I've been spoiled with fresh vegetables all my life and even after I moved to a tiny apartment, I still have fresh vegetables at my disposal.  Here's how you can have fresh vegetables in your very own apartment.

Step One
Find a spot that the sun can reach. If you're lucky enough to have a patio or balcony, this would be ideal but it's okay if you don't. If your pots can't reach the sun, place it on a table or a desk.

Step Two
Acquire some pots. I like to recycle as much as I possibly can, so I like to cut up plastic milk cartons. If you hate how ugly they are, investing in some cute and cheap contact paper can spruce them up. I usually cut above the label. A few more free pot ideas are plastic containers food comes in. You can even purchase big totes and plant them in. Once you’ve planted, don’t replant into another pot. Some plants do fine and others will die being replanted into another pot.

Step Three

Step Five
Get your container and place your potting mix in the container. Read the directions for the plants you want because some plants require different depths of planting than others. Make sure you dig your hole and put one in at a time. As soon as you plant them, water them. This will guide any air bubbles out of the potting mix so they grow better. Cover them gently with a little bit of potting mix. You don’t want to cover them so much that it’s level with the rest of the potting mix. If your plants are outdoors, you want to chose an organic pesticide because you’re going to be eating these vegetables and you don’t want to consume gross chemicals. There are plenty of recipes for do-it-yourself pesticide.

Step Six
If you can’t always be around to water your plants, invest in a watering globe. This will help your plants grow even if you forget to water them or are gone for a weekend.

Suggestions
For larger tote containers, the ideal vegetables include lettuce, eggplant, peppers, and carrots. Smaller pots are ideal for tomatoes, spinach, radishes and herbs like cilantro, basil and oregano. There are some varieties of vegetables that have been created to accommodate smaller living spaces.
